1) PLEASE PLEASE ME.
The Beatles first album, released in 1963 contained the groups 1st two singles, ' Love me do ' and ' Please please me.' The LP was recorded at Abbey Road for less than £ 1,000. The album stayed on top of the UK album charts for 29 weeks and sold 2 million copies worldwide.
2) WITH THE BEATLES.
EMI urged the
group to make a second album in time for Christmas 1963. 'With the Beatles'
was recorded in one day without any previously released hits included.
This album reflected the groups musical tastes, containing three motown
classics, 'Please mister postman,' 'You really got a hold on me' and 'Money
(that's what I want.)
This album became another UK number
1 and had worldwide sales of over 2 million.
3) A HARD DAYS NIGHT.
This
album was released in 1964 and contained one side of the soundtrack material
from the film and the other side a collection of songs recorded after the
film. The album reached number one both in the UK and America.
4) BEATLES FOR SALE.
This
album replaced 'A hard day's night ' at the top of the album charts in
the UK, but is the less well regarded of the Beatles albums. It took less
than a month to record and included just one hit single, ' Eight days a
week.'
5) HELP.
'Help' failed
to match the sales of ' A hard day's night,' but it did reach number one
in the UK and US album charts, it included seven songs from the film and
seven other cuts which included ' Yesterday.'
6) RUBBER SOUL.
The
Hammond organ featured on several tracks in this album, giving it an eerie
feel. In both the UK and US, Rubber Soul reached number 1 in the album
charts and it sold more than 1 million copies within a week in the US.
At present Rubber Soul has sold over 3 million copies.
7) REVOLVER.
After
Rubber Soul, it was thought the group would take a further step away from
the mainstream. However, Revolver reverted back and included many Lennon/
MacCartney songs such as, ' Good Day Sunshine.'
Total sales
are over 2 million, but despite its chart success the album is better known
for some of its individual tracks, such as ' Eleanor Rigby ' and ' Got
To Get You Into My Life.'
8) Sgt PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND.
The album attracted
more attention for its unique cover design rather than its musical content.
The album features many of the Beatles most popular tracks including '
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.' The album picked up several Grammy awards
including ' Best Contemporary Album.' The worldwide sales of Sgt Pepper
are now approaching 13 million !!!!!
9) THE BEATLES.
The
Beatles White Album was the Beatles first double album and made number
1 in the Uk charts and worldwide sales are now over 7 million.
10) YELLOW SUBMARINE.
Yellow submarine had little to do with the group. The idea
of a cartoon featuring John, Paul, George and Ringo had appeal, the Beatles
wanted no connection with it and the possible criticism it may have brought.
However, Yellow Submarine was universally aclaimed and the soundtrack included
2 hit singles, the title track and 'All you need is love.'
11) ABBEY ROAD.
Abbey Road was released before the Beatles final album 'Let it be' even
though Abbey road sessions were completed 6 months after the initial 'Let
it be' studio dates.
The Beatles break up was imminent, but nonetheless made another outstanding
album. The photo cover has been the subject of questions as Paul MacCartney
was wearing no shoes. Abbey Road was an instant number 1 in the UK and
has sold almost 11 million copies!!!!!!
12) LET IT BE.
George Martin had been pressed, particularly by John Lennon for a live
studio album with minimal editing - sensing that this was probably their
last project together. In contrast to this, producer Phil Spector added
every extras into the album, his contribution however, was not able to
min the quality of songs such as 'Let it be' and 'The long and winding
road.'
